Club stalwart retires

At our Christmas meeting on December 16 we farewelled Gerard (Gerry) Ancone as an active member of the club.  Gerry, who announced his retirement a week earler,  joined the club as a charter member in 1976, and served as President in 1992-1993.  He was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Carols by the Lake 2014

  The annual Carols by the Lake,a joint venture of the Rotary Club of West Lakes and West Lakes Uniting Church,  was held on Sunday, December 14.  The perfect weather guaranteed a near record crowd, and our team on the barbecue was kept busy trying to keep up with the demand for sausages and hamburgers.

End Polio Now

Since the mid 80s Rotary and its partners have been working hard to make history by eradicating the crippling disease Polio from our planet. While Australia is currently Polio free, it remains only one plane trip away from us. 2010 saw cases of Polio worldwide reduced to 1,352, a 99% reduction since starting!

District Governor’s visit

The District Governor of our Rotary District 9500, John Campbell, made an official visit to our Club on September 30. Rotary Clubs are organised in Districts usually comprised of fifty or more clubs, and each District is headed by a Governor who is elected for a one year term beginning on July 1.
