At our Christmas meeting on December 16 we farewelled Gerard (Gerry) Ancone as an active member of the club. Gerry, who announced his retirement a week earler, joined the club as a charter member in 1976, and served as President in 1992-1993. He was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship.
The annual Carols by the Lake,a joint venture of the Rotary Club of West Lakes and West Lakes Uniting Church, was held on Sunday, December 14. The perfect weather guaranteed a near record crowd, and our team on the barbecue was kept busy trying to keep up with the demand for sausages and hamburgers.
Our guest speaker on December 2 was Ron Parker, co- founder of Youth Space in South Australia. Ron spent many years in various government agencies developing youth programs, particularly those providing an alternative to detention for juvenile offenders.
On Wednesday 3 December, Community Accommodation and Respite Agency (CARA) held a sausage sizzle lunch for clients, carers and staff at their campus on Woodville Road to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability, in conjunction with other charities and organisations.
