To learn about what we achieve at the Rotary Club of West Lakes, please visit our Club Projects or Recent Events pages or come to one of our meetings.

An enthusiastic "Hello" from the club members celebrating our on-line meeting. We covered all of the business matters while enjoying convivial company during these restrictive times.
With changing circumstance and venue closures, the Rotary Club of West Lakes has transferred meetings to "ZOOM". Our first meeting in this new environment was Tuesday 24 March, with reasonable success.
The Club has now conducted 3 successful meetings with almost full attendance. Participation and discussion have proved to be very enjoyable, as our members consider the ways in which we can maintain our contributions to the community.
The meetings are held weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm (SA standard time, GMT + 9½ hours). If you would like to join one of our on-line meetings, please email "westlakes.rotary@bigpond.com" with your request and we can send an invitation to visit us, containing a link to the Zoom session.

Russell with Chair Ros
The Guest Speaker at our meeting on September 24 was Russell Green, the Secretary of our District's Disaster Aid
Committee. Disaster Aid is an international partnership of Rotary Clubs which responds to disasters by providing humanitarian aid.
Russell spoke on a major component of the aid they provide to people in disaster struck regions - the provision of safe drinking water. Disaster Aid supplies an easy to use water filtration unit which can provide up to 5,000 litres of water a day.
It is pleasing to hear of yet another example of the wonderful work that Rotary does both at home and abroad.

President Ken presenting cheque to David
As with many organisations Rotary likes to use acronyms, which can be confusing to many. Our meeting on September 10 was a case in point, Our Guest Speaker was David Cockshell the Chairman of DIK, a subsidiary of RAWCS. For those requiring a translation "DIK" stands for Donations in Kind, and "RAWCS" - Rotary Australia World Community Service.
DIK recycles items no longer required by current owners and dispatches them to organisations which are in desperate need of them. While some shipments are made to other regions of Australia, the majority are sent overseas.
David spoke mainly on the largest project he has undertaken, the relocation of over 4,000 medical items from the old Royal Adelaide Hospital. These ranged from hospital beds to operating theatre equipment to wheel chairs etc. Twenty eight projects were selected to receive requested items, and containers have been shipped to Africa, Asia, SW Pacific, Middle East and Australasia.
At the conclusion of his address President Ken presented David with a cheque to help pay for freight costs.
