Off to the races!

As our regular meeting venue was unavailable, the meeting on November 6 was held at the historic Semaphore Carousel.

It was an appropriate site for the meeting as our club has an affiliation with the carousel which recently celebrated its 80th birthday. Appropriate also to have a ”horsey” theme on Melbourne Cup Day!

Several ”races” were conducted although the horses were a little slower than the real thing.

State Treasurer is our guest speaker

President Barry with Treasurer Rob & Chairman Denis

We were honoured to have the State Treasurer, the Hon. Rob Lucas MLC, as the guest speaker at our meeting on October 30.

The attendance of Rotarians from neighbouring Clubs resulted in our meeting room being filled to capacity.

The Treasurer outlined some of the government’s plans and its vision for the future of the State.

In all, a most enjoyable evening.

Rotary District Governor visits Club

DGN9510 David Jones, President Barry, DG David Egan & and Chris.

On Tuesday, October 16 our Rotary District Governor David Egan and his wife Chris made their official visit to our Club. Rotarians from neighbouring Clubs joined us for the occasion.

Rotary in South Australia will undergo a significant change in 2020  when the two existing Districts (D9500 & D9520) will merge into one large District (D9510). The inaugural Governor of D9510,David Jones also attended the meeting and addressed some of the concerns over the impact of the change.

Club makes donation to assist rural communities

Jean Mailey with Roslyn Schumann of SACWA and President Barry

Although city based, our club is ever mindful of the difficulties facing those living in the rural areas of our State at the present time, particularly those in drought affected regions.

A decision was made to make a donation to the South Australian Country Women’s Association (SACWA) which has branches in most regions of the State, and which play a significant role in local communities.

In selecting SACWA we were mindful that they, like Rotary, cover all administration costs so that 100% of donations are directed to those in need of assistance.
