Rotary Governor visits Club

The 2019-2020 Rotary District 9500 Governor, Jane Owens, made her official visit to our Club on August 13. Jane will be the last Governor of our District as it will merge with neighbouring District 9520 on July 1, 2020 to form a new District 9510.

Members of the Rotary Club of Charles Sturt Grange and our Assistant Governor, Mike Stevens also attended the meeting.

DG Jane related her life’s journey from her early years in Glasgow, Scotland to Whyalla where she joined the Rotary Club in 2008.

She also provided a progress report on the forthcoming merger of our Districts.

 

Opposition Leader our Guest Speaker

The State Opposition Leader, the Hon. Peter Malinauskas, was the Guest Speaker at our meeting on July 9.

Peter spoke on the instability of the global political situation and provided his theory on why this has occurred.

He also spoke of the stability of our multi-cultural society and the opportunities for advancement as reasons for his grandparents of Hungarian and Lithuanian origins deciding to migrate to Australia.

Guests at the meeting were Nimrita Ram, our nominee for the 2020 National Youth Science Forum, and her parents. Nimrita  spoke most eloquently of her ambitions, demonstrating a maturity beyond her years. Members will watch her progress with interest.  What is National Youth Science Forum? Changing of the guard

At the Club meeting on June 25 our President for Rotary Year 2019 – 2020 was inducted. President Barry inducted Ken Parcell as our next President, and he in turn announced his Board of Directors.

As is tradition, the outgoing President awarded Paul Harris Recognitions to Club members whom the PHF selection panel considered had performed meritoriously during the year. In announcing this year’s recipients President Barry and PP Brian White acknowledged the outstanding efforts of Jean Mailey and Neil Butler, both of whom received a PHF Sapphire pin.

Club inducts a new member

At our meeting on June 18 President Barry inducted a new member, Miriam Altree.

Miriam is a former member of Rotaract, a Club sponsored by Rotary Clubs for young people, and joins three other members whose first involvement with Rotary began in that club. It was one of those three, Jean Mailey, who proposed Miriam for membership.
